Technique
Uganda Ballet School offers classes based on the American Ballet Theatre Curriculum.
​
Uganda Ballet School began after the closure of the Kampala Ballet and Modern Dance School, founded in 2004 by the Queen of Buganda, the Nnaabagereka. In order to carry on the tradition of ballet in Uganda, UB was established by the former Artistic Director of KBMDS and one of the first Ugandan ballet instructors at KBMDS.

Curriculum
The Uganda Ballet School curriculum teaches students how to use their bodies correctly by focusing on coordination, anatomy, and proper body alignment. Classes progress from beginner to advanced student, giving each dancer solid technical training. The curriculum provides dance students with a knowledge of classical ballet technique and the ability to adapt the technique to other styles of dance.

Students can advance through the curriculum toward pointe work.

CLASSES
Pre-Primary Class (ages 4-5)
Saturdays 10 - 10:45 AM
An introduction to ballet with beginning development of ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness, and a specific focus on class etiquette. Students will begin positions of the feet, and introductory movement vocabulary
Primary Class (ages 7-11)
Saturdays 10 - 11 AM
The goal of the Primary class is to impart the fundamentals of classical ballet. The class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology, and musicality. Students will be introduced to the elementary barre and center work.
Level 1 (Ages 12 and up)
11- 12 PM

In this class attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras, and balance. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work. Students begin to focus on repetition and retention.
